Xiaomi, the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer has officially launched its second vehicle, The YU7 SUV. Building on the foundation of its SU7 sedan, this electric SUV represents Xiaomi’s ambitious step into the highly competitive SUV segment. The YU7 is set to launch in China by July 2025, with initial priority on domestic sales before exploring global markets due to strong local demand.
Xiaomi YU7 boasts a longer overall length compared to the SU7 while maintaining and identical wheelbase for balanced proportions. With a top speed of 253km/h, the YU7 offers impressive performance, albeit slightly lower than the SU7 Max. Leveraging cutting-edge battery technology, Xiaomi has partnered with Tesla supplier CATL to power the YU7, ensuring advanced energy efficiency and reliability.
Dimensions and Design: Bigger and Bolder
The Xiaomi YU7’s wheelbase of 3,000mm is equivalent to the SU7’s, yet it is 2mm longer, at 4,999mm. With a width of 1,996mm and 1,600mm height. For some point of view, the YU7 is bigger on each measurement than its primary rival, the Tesla Model Y, which is 4,751mm long and 1,920mm wide, 1,624mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,890mm.
The SUV’s design carries forward elements from the SU7, including teardrop-style LED headlights and flush pop-up door handles. New features like black wheel arches, a redesigned rear tail light, and distinctive alloy wheels elevate its crossover aesthetic. A prominent roof hump suggests LiDAR integration for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), emphasizing Xiaomi’s focus on cutting edge technology.
Performance and Powertrain: Exceptional Capability
The YU7 employs a powerful dual-motor setup:
- Front Moto: 299hp
- Rear Moto: 392hp
Together they deliver a robust 691hp, outperforming the SU7 Max’s 673hp variant. With a kerb weight of 2,405kg, the SUV is expected to use the same 101kWh NMC battery found in high-end SU7 models, promising a competitive range despite its heavier frame.
Strategic Market Positioning
The YU7 SUV will prioritize the domestic Chinese market initially, capitalizing on strong demand and feedback. While the SU7 sedan has been showcased in India to assess market potential, there’s no confirmation yet about the brand’s plan to introduce electric vehicles to the Indian market.
