The Kia Syros original design sketches were viewed with suspicion. After seeing the car in person, that skepticism evolved into a raised eyebrow and ultimately a feeling of relief. Even though some people might find its design strange, there is no doubting that it has a certain eccentric charm.

Embracing a Bold New Design Perspective

It is obvious that the designers wanted to convey a sense of boldness, modernity, and youth. The character is enhanced by the high bonnet life, split lighting, and angular design cues. Seeing a manufacturer approach design with a sense of adventure is refreshing.

Instead of being another stereotypical SUV, the Syros dares to be unique. Its large 17-inch wheels, flush-fitting door handles, boxy silhouette, oversized glasshouse, and full-LED lighting give it a concept car look that is rarely seen in a production-spec model.

Kia has made sure the Syros stands out in a sea of generic crossovers by skillfully fusing futuristic features with tough SUV promotions.

Practicality Vs Quirkiness

However, great responsibility or in this case, some practical concerns accompany great design. Consider for example- the lamps at very edges. Even though they appear cool, how long before a biker or rickshaw gives them a casual bump that causes a permanent dent, or a worse broken headlamp?

Then there is the position of the rear’s single reverse light, which is low on the bumper, and the indicators. They are easy to miss because of their placement, especially in crowded parking lots or in heavy traffic. Although it enhances the visual appeal, does it affect usability in the real world? Buyers will need to weigh that trade-off.

Maximizing the Platform

Aside from the specifics, we are astounded by how the Syros is making the most of the Hyundai-Kia K1 platform. With a wider track, a wheelbase that is 50 mm longer than the Sonet’s, and a height increase of almost 40 mm, Kia has successfully completely reimagined what a sub-4-meter vehicle can be.

This results in a more-roomy cabin, a more assured posture, and better visibility on the road. That was quite a tall boy allusion.

Verdict: Bold or Bizarre?

The intriguing thing about the Kia Syros is that it doesn’t play it safe. It dares to be unique, and Kia should be commended for that. You’ll adore the Syros if you like unique, quirky designs. But its unusual styling might not be for you if you like subtle elegance. One thing is for sure though the Syros will not blend in.
