The iconic Renault Duster is gearing up for an electrifying transformation. Confirmed by Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot, the Duster is officially getting an all-electric variant in the coming years. This new model will be introduced under the Dacia brand in Europe, while India may also see its own version of the EV—marking a significant shift for the much-loved SUV.

All-Electric Duster: What’s Coming?

According to the confirmation from Dacia’s top boss, the Duster EV “will come in time,” aligning with the brand’s future-ready roadmap. This supports earlier reports hinting that Renault was already working on electrifying the Duster platform. Notably, the EV will likely come with a 4×4 drivetrain, making it a strong contender in the electric off-roader segment.

Platform Details: Built on CMF-BEV Architecture

The Duster EV will be based on the CMF-BEV platform—an EV-specific version of the CMF-B platform used by Renault for its combustion models. This modular architecture is already used by models like the Renault 5 and Renault 4 crossover, ensuring compatibility with both urban and rugged driving styles.

Though most CMF-BEV models to date have featured front-wheel drive, a recent 4×4 concept of the Renault 4 has proven that the platform can house an additional motor on the rear axle. This breakthrough strongly suggests that a 4WD variant of the Duster EV is not only possible but likely.

India Plans: Will We Get the Duster EV?

The next-gen Duster is confirmed to launch in India by early 2026, starting with a petrol version, followed by a hybrid variant within a year. Reports from 2023 indicated that Renault had already begun the groundwork for an India-spec Duster EV, including discussions with local cell and battery suppliers to achieve a competitive price point.

While no official timeline has been announced for the Duster EV in India, Renault-Nissan’s interest in localization hints at a strong possibility. If realized, this could make the Duster EV one of the most affordable and practical electric SUVs in the country.

Dacia’s Broader EV Vision

Currently, Dacia’s only EV is the compact Spring Electric, but that’s about to change. Alongside the upcoming Sandero EV in 2027, the brand aims to electrify its entire portfolio, including models like the Bigster SUV. With stricter emission norms and Europe’s ICE ban deadline of 2035, Dacia and Renault are doubling down on their electric future.
