Tata Motors to Introduce Avinya: A New Luxury EV Brand with Sportback Design

In a bold move against the rush toward SUVs, Tata Motors is set to launch its Avinya luxury electric brand with an innovative Sportback before introducing an SUV. In an interview with Autocar India during Auto Expo 2025, Martin Ulharik, head of Global Design at Tata Motors, emphasized the significance of the Avinya concept revealed two years ago is a manifesto for the vision. He stated “The Avinya concept we showcased two years ago is a manifesto but it will be the first product to launch and will be a Sportback a 5-door, very low and very dynamic”. This Sportback aligns beautifully with their initial concept and serves as an exciting preview of what’s to come. Ulharik confirmed that the design has been finalized and that this standout vehicle is scheduled to hit the market next year.

Moreover, he described it as a “real brand builder,” underlining Tata Motors commitment to capturing attention through this flagship product while establishing the foundation for its new luxury electric lineup. While opting for a unique body style that isn’t mainstream, reports suggest that Tata intends to produce around 24,000 units annually an impressive figure that speak volumes about their confidence in this venture. By choosing such an ambitious approach with Avinya’s debut model. Tata Motors is not just joining the electric vehicle-race, they are poised to lead with innovation in design and brand identity.

Luxury SUV to follow

Get ready for an exciting addition to the Avinya lineup. Following the Avinya Sportback, we are set to see an impressive SUV that’s based on the stunning Avinya X concept revealed at this year’s Auto Expo. Ulharik has referred to it as a “brand pillar” highlighting its significant potential with a more traditional SUV design. Latest information suggests that this SUV will rank near the top of the five planned models, with a luxurious 3-row version leading the pack. All vehicles in this range, including both the Sportback and SUV, will be constructed on JLRs advanced EMA platform. But that’s not all our sources indicate that there are even more exciting developments on the horizon. The company is also working on two additional body styles one is compact SUV approximately 4.4 meters long and a larger luxury UV around 4.9 meters, akin to Volvo’s EM90 MPV.
