The impressive 79 kWh battery is currently exclusive to the top-tier Pack Three version of both electric SUV models. Since deliveries began in March, Mahindra has successfully delivered over 6,300 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e<\/a>, showcasing its strong presence in the market. Notably, more than 75 percent of all bookings have been for the premium Pack Three variant, which benefits from this larger battery pack. However, Mahindra is not stopping here; they plan to introduce this advanced battery option across lower trim levels to create a more streamlined and appealing range for customers. This strategic move will undoubtedly boost sales volumes while meeting consumer demand for enhanced options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plenty of Interest, Few Takers: Lower Trims Struggle to Seal the Deal<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Prioritizing production and deliveries for Pack Three variants is a strategic move by Mahindra that reflects the strong demand for high-quality vehicles. Deliveries commenced with the premium Pack Three variant in March, and consumers can expect the arrival of the Pack Three Select variants in June, followed by Pack Two in July. The base \u2018Pack 1 Above\u2019 and Pack 1 variants are scheduled for an August release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a conversation with Autocar Professional, Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra\u2019s executive director and CEO (Auto and Farm Sector), emphasized an important insight: while there is significant interest in the lower-spec variants, potential buyers are reluctant to commit without experiencing the vehicle firsthand. \u201cThey do not get converted into bookings right now because people want to see the vehicles before they book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, more than 75 percent of bookings are skewed toward Pack Three due to its appeal. However, Jejurikar confidently stated that this mix will shift as display models and test drive opportunities for Pack Two become available. This is a clear indication that Mahindra understands consumer behavior and is prepared to adapt its strategy accordingly. Emphasizing quality while ensuring accessibility could very well pave the way for increased sales across all variants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand for a 79kWh battery in lower trims is not just a trend; it’s shaping the future of Mahindra\u2019s <\/a>vehicle lineup. Jejurikar has pointed out a crucial shift: consumers are prioritizing extended driving range over additional features. This revelation has prompted Mahindra to rethink its offerings, recognizing that there is a substantial market willing to choose the 79 kWh option in more affordable packages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jejurikar emphasized, \u201cThere is a very large segment of people who will want 79 kWh in lower packs.\u201d This insight challenges previous assumptions that the larger battery would only appeal to high-end buyers and demonstrates that many customers value range above other features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To capitalize on this opportunity, Mahindra plans to roll out new versions of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, which are equipped with the desirable 79kWh battery but designed with fewer frills to keep costs down. By doing this, they aim to tap into a wider audience and significantly boost sales volumes.
