MG 4 EV Breaks Cover – Creta-Sized Electric Hatch Ready to Rule the Roads

The unveiling of the new MG 4 hatchback by a Chinese regulator has brought exciting details about this next-generation EV’s design and specifications. It’s impressive to see a new generation emerge just two years after the original MG 4 was introduced, especially since this hatchback has gained significant popularity in Europe, despite struggling in its home market. The previous model made an appearance at Auto Expo 2023, as it was being considered for our local market.

The new MG 4 EV measures nearly 4.4 meters in length and boasts a spacious wheelbase of 2.75 meters, making it both practical and stylish. It comes equipped with a powerful 163hp motor that allows for an exhilarating top speed of 160kph. While details of the interior have yet to be disclosed, there’s no doubt that this updated model will continue to impress potential buyers looking for innovative electric vehicles.

MG 4 Flaunts Its Fresh Look: A Design That Demands Attention

MG 4 Latest Design

The new MG 4 is a standout in its segment, boasting impressive dimensions that clearly differentiate it from its predecessor. Measuring 4,395mm in length, 1,842mm in width, and 1,551mm in height—with a wheelbase of 2,750mm—this hatchback is notably larger. It’s not just slightly bigger; it’s actually grown by 108mm in length, 4mm in width, and a remarkable 35mm in height. Plus, the wheelbase has been extended by an additional 45mm.

When compared to competitors like the Hyundai Creta and MG Windsor, the new MG 4 outshines them on almost every front as a spacious large hatchback. In European markets, it stands tall next to rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3.

The all-new design also brings freshness; it features an eye-catching redesigned front end along with new doors and rear styling—plus a larger greenhouse for enhanced visibility. Notably borrowed from the upcoming Cyberster are elements such as sleek headlight units and an assertive honeycomb intake on the front bumper alongside arrow-shaped LED accents on the tail-lights. This makes the MG 4 not only practical but also visually striking—a compelling choice for anyone looking for modern design coupled with substantial roominess.

MG 4 Goes the Distance: Battery and Powertrain Details Revealed

MG 4 Battery and Powertrain Details

Though details about the new MG 4’s battery specs are still under wraps, it’s exciting to know that the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery will be provided by Rept Battero Energy. This advanced setup powers a robust 163hp motor, enabling the electric hatchback to reach impressive speeds of up to 160kph.

It’s also important to consider the performance of its predecessor’s entry-level model, which boasted a 51kWh (net) battery offering an impressive WLTP range of 350km. With a powerful 170hp motor mounted on the rear axle generating 250Nm of torque, it set a solid benchmark. Additionally, customers in select markets like the UK could choose from options including a more substantial 64kWh or even a robust 77kWh variant, along with an exhilarating AWD version featuring dual motors for enhanced performance. As for what’s inside the new MG 4, neither MG Motor nor the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has disclosed any information yet. However, we can draw inspiration from its predecessor’s stylish cabin—characterized by sleek horizontal lines and two eye-catching floating screens for both infotainment and instrumentation. Features such as a comprehensive 360-degree camera system, ventilated front seats, and an advanced ADAS suite suggest that comfort and safety are top priorities in this model as well. The anticipation surrounding these innovations makes it clear that MG is committed to delivering an exceptional driving experience with their latest hatchback.
