Tesla 1 Month Review: First Impressions in India

Tesla entered the Indian market in July 2025 and has created a lot of excitement with its first store opening in Mumbai, followed by another in Delhi NCR just last week. Tesla’s top-of-the-line electric crossover, the Model Y, is also the first car being launched in India, offering a simple, modern design.

The car is young in the Indian market, it was sufficient to gather some early impressions regarding what Tesla has to offer. From its breathtaking design to its handling of Indian roads, here is Auto Gully perspective on the Model Y and how it performs in the Indian market.

Tesla Model Y Review India

Tesla Model Y Review India:

The Tesla Model Y is not afraid to make a statement with its futuristic, minimalist design that is true to the brand. The car’s front is first notable by a signature LED light bar that traverses the front of the vehicle, which is accompanied by sequential turn signals and angular day-running lights. The narrow, sleek LED headlamps are incorporated into the bumper seamlessly, while a trapezoidal black air dam contributes to a sporty, aggressive look.

In the back, the LED strip carries on with the simple, traditional appearance. Although the overall design is understated, it will not appeal to everyone, particularly those who like more conventional SUV styling. The Model Y’s coupe-like styling and lowered position might make it seem less of an SUV and more of a crossover, which might be an issue for some. But if you like a minimalist but futuristic aesthetic, the Model Y definitely does not disappoint.

Tesla Model Y Cabin: Basic and Well-Insulated

The Tesla Model Y interior in India has the same minimalist design pattern. The cabin is dominated by one giant central touchscreen that operates almost all the car’s functions without requiring old-fashioned buttons or knobs. Aside from the screen, the cabin has a tidy, clutter-free dashboard, plain steering wheel, and cushy seats; there is no instrument panel to be seen. Although the dashboard and door trims’ materials are not soft-touch. According to us, the best feature of the Model Y is noise insulted cabin, which is top-notch, making it a drop silent drive.

Tesla Model Y price in India

Driving the Tesla Model Y is something of an adjustment, since nearly everything is accessed through the center touchscreen. The Tesla Model Y RWD offers a quick 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, which can goes high up to 201 kmph,. Another factor is that, as an electric car, the Model Y needs to be charged up regularly, something that, despite its efficient battery pack, can be a nuisance.

With India’s charging network also in its nascent stages, this could discourage buyers, particularly when comparing with the automobile’s steep price of Rs 59.89 lakh to 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). For those who have a charger at home, it does not matter as much, but public charging points are still few.

Tesla Charging

On the positive side, Tesla makes it more convenient by including a free 11kW AC wall box charger as part of the standard Model Y package. Owners will not have to pay extra for a home charging station, at least not right away. But of course, there is a twist: the charger itself is free, but there’s a free installation fee that is not disclosed, which will increase the overall price tag. Tesla Model Y charging time in India can be between 8 to 10 hours with a home AC charger.

Tesla will start shipping the Standard Range model of the Model Y from September, and it is likely that the Long Range version will also reach customers by the end of 2025. This gradual release might prove to be something to consider for those who are impatient to own the electric SUV.
